The center of the now pedestrian square is an obelisk from ancient Heliopolis and the detail is incredible. It is one of the tallest and brought to Rome in 10 BC.
We sat and had coffee and a pastry overlooking the square, then headed up and to the northeast into Borghese Gardens where we enjoyed some elevated views of Rome and the Vatican (yes, that's St. Peter's behind us) and eventually found a nice shady park bench to rest our feet before circling our way back to our hotel (but not before stopping for more Nutella Gelato for Amanda and a beer for me). We ended up back at our outdoor fountain to enjoy our treats and cool off from the hot weather.
We went back to DoDo for dinner (it was great the first night, and just as great tonight) and headed back to our room to pack.
20 hours of flight time tomorrow, and a few more hours of airport time. We have some awesome memories to make it all worth while (says the guy who is 2 beers and a half a bottle of pino gris in).
If we leave you with one thing, it should be --- Get out there and see the world. It's a truly amazing and humbling place.
